We have listed below information that might answer some questions and give you additional information about our Rebuilding Day activities.
-
Rebuilding Day will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Rain or shine! It is very important
that you plan to stay a full day, or until the work on your home
is completed. Also, no-shows strongly impact our success; so if
you need to cancel, please call us in advance to let us know.
We do as many repairs as we can in one day to the homes of low-income families. If you cannot work on Rebuilding Day, it may be possible to do prep work (such as dry walling before painting) or follow-up work on another day.
Depending on the work scope at a house, there will be 5 to 50 individuals at each work site. The average count is 20. If you are coming as a small group, you may be paired with another group or individuals. If your group is large, we may ask that you split into a morning and an afternoon shift. We will do the best we can to keep your group together on the same house or houses near each other.
Volunteers are provided lunch and T-shirts on Rebuilding Day.
Homeowners go through a selection process. All are low-income and many are elderly and/or disabled. Please understand that homeowners and their families are asked to join in the repairs. This does not always happen! Also, understand that just as you have a choice in how you spend your money, so do low-income families. We try to select homeowners who use their limited funds wisely, but we also respect their values.
We need volunteer recruitment forms back by March 25th. Volunteer waivers for adults will be signed at the work site on Rebuilding Day and teenagers 14 to 18 years of age will be sent a Parental Permission form to be signed and brought with them to the work site.
Around the middle of April, house assignments are mailed, along with a map, description of work to be done and any last time details. We do not provide tools so we ask you to look at the description and bring appropriate tools marked with your name and phone number on them. We do supply a sack lunch and a beverage for volunteers.
This is your chance to wear your "grubby" clothes!
Sorry, but children under the age of 14 are not covered by our Liability Insurance and the activities of the day are too dangerous for them to be included. Teenagers between the ages of 14-18 must have a Parental Permission form.
