The Happiness of Rebuilding Together-St Louis
I recently looked up the word “Happiness” in the dictionary. It said, “Happiness results from the possession or attainment of what one considers good.” Well we know that one cannot possess or attain something without planning and creating. The truth of this is that happiness takes effort.
I cannot begin to tell you the happiness I feel when I get to call a home owner on the phone and say, “Mr. and Mrs. Home Owner, you sent us an application requesting a new roof, our selection committee has selected you to receive a new roof free of charge.” What I hear next on the phone cannot be described. What I feel is overwhelming happiness inside that just explodes inside of me. Through giving of my talents and skills this “Happiness” becomes a win-win for both the home owner and myself.
I see this time and time again in of thousands volunteers who help us Rebuild Together. I relate to the happiness that I see on their faces through the gift of giving to people. People who have the desire to improve their living condition; but for many valid reasons, they have no ability to make it happen.
Happiness takes effort. Working on someone’s home is not easy: We must plan, we must prepare, we must schedule, and we must put in a lot of hours (effort) to make it happen. And all of this is obtainable with volunteers giving many hours of their time, our contractors sacrificing their overhead cost and profit margin. Come and be part of our volunteer team and\or our contractor teams.
We need people to help us as we give and receive the happiness of Rebuilding St Louis Together.
